Revealed!
New Friday

After weeks of speculation (and even our own little betting pool) about the look Jason will don in the upcoming relaunch of the Friday the 13th series, Platinum Dunes have officially laid the speculation to rest. At least when it comes to the infamous hockey mask anyway. Today, during a set visit report on MTV, Jason’s mask was revealed! Most fans will be pleased to discover the mask maintaining the classic look of the “pre-New Line” Friday the 13th films. You can see the MTV set visit HERE. Also check out the official Platinum Dunes page for an even better look at the mask. Friday the 13th opens Friday February 13th, 2009!

Young Jason Voorhees Revealed!
New Friday
Platinum Dunes have announced their latest addition to FRIDAY THE 13TH. Newcomer Caleb Guss spent a few days on set in heavy makeup to portray the young Jason Voorhees in flashback sequences for the movie, currently being filmed by Marcus Nispel in Austin, Texas. Producer Brad Fuller also referenced a scene where Travis Van Winkle and Danielle Panabaker are being chased by adult Jason through Crystal Lake; “Last night we were shooting a scene where Travis Van Winkle and Danielle are running full speed down a narrow hall, they got tangled up and Danielle’s chin collided with the hard edge of the window sill leaving her down for the count. She was out cold for a minute with a bloody chin… she’s a tough girl and was willing to come back the next day to shoot, but we adjusted our schedule to accommodate her ailing chin.”

Jason Rambo
New Friday
I only now came across this Interview with new Jason Derek Mears, where he discusses Jason right from the set. While we wait for the no-doubt carefully timed release of the first shot of Jason in-costume, I thought it would be useful to strip out all the details from the interview and post them here for clarity.
First off, he paints a mental picture of Jason that is similar to First Blood’s John Rambo in both clothing and righteously vengeful personality. He also confirms what we all should know by now, that Jason is still a mama’s boy, and that he transitions from bag-head to hockey mask.
Visual Details:
Hockey mask eye hole - prosthetic eye which may get an eye-blink CG’ed in.
Body type - lean, because he lives in the forest surviving on animals.
Upper body - fake skin suit, crooked spine/hunchback.
Jacket - long, sewn-together combo of a hunting jacket & military style jacket.
Tshirt - full of holes, can see skin underneath.
Hands - long nails.
Footwear - regular well worn combat boots.
Read on for SPOILERS of some of the homages to previous Friday The 13ths, and hints at a crucial change in Jason’s personality!
Friday Homages:
Jason comes crashing through a window, grabbing a victim (Friday The 13th Part 2).
Jason tilts his when he hears somebody say his name (The Final Chapter).
When Jason first puts on the hockey mask, it is shot from behind (Jason Lives).
Assorted Scenes:
Jason enters a bus looking for a hiding victim.
There’s a rain sequence.
Jason enters a tent, about to kill a victim.
Jason hacks a female to death with the machete.
Adult Jason will appear in the lake at least once.
Lastly, this Jason does not seem to be retarded. He is more intelligent this time around, like a hunter - and goes to great lengths to set up characters to be killed in ways you don’t initially realize as a viewer until it’s too late - around the same time the victim does.

Here is something I found on Fangoria. It's an interview with Sean Cunnigham on the new film....

While attending France’s Gerardmer Film Festival earlier this year, original FRIDAY THE 13TH director Sean Cunningham chatted with Fango about the FRIDAY franchise and Marcus Nispel’s upcoming remake, due February 13, 2009. Cunningham is very fond of his “creature,” even if he would love to deal with a more “human” Jason rather than the cold (and a little dumb) killing machine we all know. “At one point, when I got the rights back and wanted to do another Jason movie, I thought the series had become just awful,” he tells Fango. “I wanted to make it about people again and create kind of a real villain, but then I understood that almost everybody wanted to have Jason as their gladiator! The audience wanted a ride on the rollercoaster; that’s what they wanted from the franchise.”
Describing the FRIDAY THE 13TH series as a kind of horror version of REVENGE OF THE NERDS, Cunningham explains the genesis of the reboot: “The situation was that I control the rights, but the subject of the rights is owned by the distributors. So New Line had the rights to do the sequels and I made a deal with them, but the rights for the original FRIDAY THE 13TH were with Paramount. So they said, ‘We have to do something different; we can’t make FREDDY VS. JASON or vs. Pinhead, Ash or whatever; we should go back and make the remake of the original one.’ ”
Talking about the new movie’s producers, Michael Bay and the Platinum Dunes gang, Cunningham, currently guiding the LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT redux, reveals, “They got very excited because they had a huge success remaking THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, but at that point, we had to figure out how to get the rights from Paramount and doing the movie without problems; everything became very complicated. But one day, someone woke up and said, ‘Excuse me, do you know that Jason is [barely] in the first FRIDAY THE 13TH?’ And so, suddenly, the project became not a remake of the original but a sort of recombination, something new. So the difficult job was to create a movie that seems to be the remake of the first film, but it’s a kind of synthesis between parts one, two and three. But it has to be a good work of synthesis in order to be accepted by the fan base.” Fango has plenty of coverage of the new FRIDAY (which we previously reported on here) coming on this site and in our magazine’s pages, so stay tuned!

Michael Bay Talks Friday the 13th
From: Shock Till You Drop

Transformers director and Platinum Dunes head Michel Bay provided EW with an update on how things are progressing with Friday the 13th.

"I haven't seen the director's cut because he's still cutting, but I know this one will really be scary," Bay says. "It's also funny, as well. It's a fun college adventure that goes awry. It's not a movie I would ever show my mom! We don't make these for our mothers; we make these for the fans out there."

Pressed for any twists that may arise in the latest Voorhees film, Bay believes, "You’re just not going to believe the first 12 minutes!" However, he won't comment on the plot because of the "Internet crazies."

"There are always haters out there," he adds, touching on the fans concerned over this latest entry. "And you can't get rid of that. We try to be faithful, and we’re fans ourselves. It's like when I did Transformers — I listened to the fans, you know, but you still have to make your own movie by respecting what was done and trying to give it a whole new twist."

Bay adds he penned an outline for the recently announced Ouija and that Dunes is now looking for writers to tackle the material. For the full interview click below...

Here are the first photos of Platinum Dune's Jason for the new film.
Though he looks intriguing, he doesn't look like her should be from the time this movie is supposed to take place in the F13 continuity. He looks to me closer to the Freddy VS Jason style Jason. I know some F13 fans are gonna get on my case for saying this, but it's the truth. Take a look...
